Charlotte Figg Takes Over Paradise By Joyce Magnin |
For Charlotte Figg, the main character in this book, life had always held its own secrets for her that she hid away in the dark corners of her own life. It was not until her husband died that her life began to change. There were those who were surprised at how she up and left the life she had always known and embarked upon a life that was so familiar. It was almost like Charlotte was led to paradise.
Through all of her unimaginable moments at paradise, Charlotte was met with circumstances that she would never have dreamed she would encounter. She was introduced to people that seemed strange at first, but yet they quickly became her true friends and people she could count upon. However, it was through opening up her own life and stepping out into her own fears and uncertainties that she made connections with the residents of paradise.
It took Charlotte a great deal of courage to stand up and stand her ground, but in order to break through the secrets of paradise, that is what was required. There were no rules or procedures of course in what she would need to do. It was all through the trial and experiences of living her every day life. By her standing her ground and living life, she helped everyone in paradise find the same truths for themselves that she was learning.
In many ways, I found this book to be a good metaphor for life. We often are scared to venture out beyond what we currently know. We grow accustomed to our homes, our communities and our daily routines. Yet, we often hide our own secrets within what seems familiar in our life. It is when we step out and stand our own ground, that we come face to face with the secrets that hold us back in life. When we do this, we inspire and encourage and help others do the same, just by our examples.
Of course we can choose to continue hiding in our own routines and our own life, afraid of the secrets we hold, but one has to ask themselves, is that truly living. We could also be like the main character of this book when Charlotte Figg takes over Paradise. Maybe we have to step away from all we have known to find paradise in our life.
I was very happy reading this book and enjoyed spending the time with the characters. I'm not sure it is a full five star book, but it would be pretty close. My only criticism of the book is I felt the ending was a little weak. It could have been developed just a little more and helped bring a greater completion to the story. However, I think you will enjoy reading this book as well.
